A Start-to-Finish Edit from Caddo Lake
Have you ever photographed a scene that felt incredible in person, only to get home and wonder where the magic went?
You knew there was something special about the moment. The light. The atmosphere. The feeling of being there. But when you opened the file, the photograph didn’t quite capture what you experienced.
In this edition of Inside the Studio, I’m inviting you behind the scenes for a complete start-to-finish edit of Magic Revealed, an image I created at Caddo Lake in East Texas.
Together, we’ll explore how I approached this photograph from the first look at the RAW file through the final image.
This isn’t a polished demonstration with only the highlights. You’ll see the entire process, including the questions I ask myself, the decisions I make, and how I work through challenges along the way.

What We’ll Explore:
We’ll talk about how to:
• How I evaluate a RAW file and identify what drew me to the scene in the first place
• Finding clarity and direction in a visually complex photograph
• The editing decisions that help strengthen mood, atmosphere, and visual flow
• My approach to balancing realism with creative interpretation
• The small adjustments that often make the biggest difference
• How I know when an image is finished
Along the way, you’ll be able to ask questions about Lightroom, Photoshop, workflow, creative decisions, and anything else related to the editing process.
This session is for photographers who want to move beyond simply processing images
and learn how to create photographs that better reflect what they saw, felt,
and experienced in the field.
Whether you’re new to editing or have been working with Lightroom and Photoshop for years, you’ll gain insight into both the technical and creative decisions that shape a finished image.
